Julie Neisius
As a child growing up in L'Anse, artist Julie Neisius said her favorite thing to do was to draw. But it was many years later that the artist began developing her talent to the place where she can market her creations.
Julie said she took courses in art while attending Northern Michigan University, but otherwise has had no formal training. She was, however, able to use her skills while serving as a preschool teacher at the Ark Preschool at Bethany Lutheran Church for 15 years.
Although watercolors are very challenging, Julie said the media is her favorite form of artwork to create.
'Watercolor is not very forgiving,' she said. 'Once you begin it takes on a life of its own.
Julie said painting architecture is 'fun and very exciting,' but can also be a challenge. 'When someone asks you to do a painting for them, like maybe their home, they want it to be near perfect and look like their home. Plus you want them to like it.'
